I am, therefore I blog

I started out blogging thinking that I would use my blog as a way to get things that were bothering me off of my mind. And to have a place to enjoy writing for pleasure. I really didn’t expect others to be interested in reading it. In fact, I didn’t really care if anyone did or not.

Until I found my blog stats page.

And then I got my first comment.

Just as Chilihead describes in her post The Seedy Underbelly of Blog Addiction, I was hooked. Obsessed. Can’t-think-of-anything-else-leave-me-alone-I-have-to-blog addicted.

I couldn’t sleep because I was thinking about what to blog next. However, I wasn’t writing any of the things that were on my mind. I was suddenly curiously self-conscious. What if others didn’t like it? Did I offend someone with my last post? I was spending more time checking my stats than I was writing. Yikes. I was right where I promised myself I would never go. This blog was for me, darnit. If I can’t be myself here, where can I?

I’ve re-made the decision to do this for me. I thoroughly enjoy the whole blog community. There are several blogs I just love. I’m thrilled that some people find mine interesting. I plan on pursuing this new passion. Because I want to.

So again, I’m Jenny.

  3. I started out blogging for the same reasons, and then it morphed into something totally different! I’m glad you’re going back to the reason you started blogging. If you are genuine, and you enjoy what you’re doing, I’ll bet you still have tons of readers as a bonus.

I’ve never been here before, but I really like your layout. I think I’ll have a look around! :)

  5. Interesting to think about the reasons we blog and our “audience.” I started blogging as part of a Project 365 (taking a picture every day for a year) and journaling for the family. As you say, it began to grow (in my mind if no where else — ha).

Dh and I share the blog and we continue to tweak and change and see our vision and ministry for the blog evolve over time.

    Thanks for sharing some thoughts.
